Description:

Scottish Mahogany Longcase Clock by Willm Paris, Bellsquarry

This is a magnificent mahogany Scottish longcase clock. The movement is eight-day on an arched painted dial.

If we start with the hood, this has swan necks with arched moulded cornice and brass pateras. The hood door is flanked with full turned columns, which terminate in lovely turned details. This is a fine example of the bow door style of Scottish longcase clock with accompanying pillars and with the cushion moulds to top and base of trunk. The door is superbly shaped.

The base is has an inset panel which is surrounded in lovely shaped moulding and a wonderful flame of mahogany to the centre. The base is then raised on little shaped bracket feet.

The eight-day movement, striking the hour has an arched painted dial, subsidiary second and date dials, is rack striking and chimes out the hours on a single bell. The dial is signed in lovely scrolls ‘Willm Paris, Bellsquarry’. The four corners are adorned with ladies depicting the four seasons. The arch of the dial contains a scene which depicts an elderly gentleman with a young boy and his dog and is titled ‘THE BLESSING’.

Height: 82 ¼ inches (209cm)

Condition: Fully restored and in excellent condition. The movement has been fully restored and is guaranteed.
