Description: Thos Davies: A lovely early oak eight-day brass dial longcase clock. Full turned columns, which terminate in brass capitals to the front, flank the square hood and quarter turned columns to the rear, which are terminated, in original guilding. The case with a full length shaped trunk door, which is raised on a base with shaped bracket feet. The hood is also crowned with a shaped pagoda top, which gives the clock a wonderfully grand appearance. The eight-day movement with makers name of Thos Davies, striking the hour has a square brass dial, and date aperture to floriated engraved dial centre and foliate spandrels. There are several Thomas Davies’s listed in ‘Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World Volume 1 by G.H. Ballie’ from the style and age of the case it is believed that the maker Thos Davies for this clock is Thos Davies of Monmouth. 1777.
