Description: T. Pear, Stafford: This is superb oak carved long case clock which is outstanding quality and of very impressive majestic proportions. It has an eight-day movement on an arch brass dial. The carvings to the case of this clock are stunning. The hood has swan necks with arched moulded cornice are beautifully finished with carved pateras. Below the swan necks is the most delightful egg and dart carvings. The hood door is flanked by columns, which are intricately carved to emulate Corinthian columns. Moving down to the trunk, the door is beautifully shaped and again has been stunningly carved with fruit, foliage and shells. The base is carved with a woodland face surrounded in foliage and is raised on a shaped plinth base. The eight-day movement with makers name of T. Pear, Stafford, is rack striking and chimes out the hours on a single tube and has STRIKE/SILENT facility to the arch. The four corners of the brass dial are adorned with cherub spandrels whilst the spandrels to the arch depict a sea serpent. The chapter ring is silvered and has applied brass Arabic numbers. The centre of the dial is also silvered and has been nicely etched with foliage it also contains the subsidiary second and date dials. There is one T.
